A series of interactive shadow sculptural scenes created with local communities in this workshop, made from cut out papers, bringing stories to life.

The exciting immersive experience explores hidden stories around diversity, for example the slave trade and the impact on children and young people working in cotton mills, on migration and diverse cultures brought together from Britain’s industrialisation and colonisation.

From working with young people to create shadow stories from collections and archives, bringing the stories to life through multimedia art and then filmed to create short animations.

There are elements of the tradition of toy theatre, where family audiences can engage with storytelling and local history.

In this workshop Rachel Riggs will lead young people to create paper cut outs to tell their own stories using vintage and contemporary papers, recycling and repurposing old books, magazines and comics into interactive works of art.

Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult and that all adults and children attending the workshop need a ticket.
