To envision the future, we must first understand the past. Hear from our archivist, Heena Patel, as she brings writers reflecting on our city’s historical literature. Also, introducing Hard Pressed, mapping Manchester’s radical small presses.
Imagine Malcolm X as a Game Designer. Participate in (or lean back and watch) a wild, black consciousness-seeded RPG Game created by a team of radical writers to maintain black consciousness in a world of heightened white privilege. That’s Simulacrum Funk, the video game, introduced by co-creator Tarikq Mehmood.
Expect live performances by a variety of Manchester’s vibrant writers, including Maya Chowdhry, Maz Hedgehog, and Cansu Han. Interact with original story games by creatives from Manchester and Beirut.
Network over a light free buffet, with writers, artists, activists and innovators who are keen on experiment, collaboration and devising new forms of literature-infused art.
We are very lucky to be hosting Future Visions at the illustrious Chuck Gallery, so wear your most fabulous clothes if you would like to compliment the backdrop of beautiful contemporary African art. We look forward to seeing you there.
