This inclusive project includes all kinds of residents experiencing writing and publishing about ‘my Manchester; our Manchester’. Write Manchester gets people writing in order to allow them to reflect upon their city, and their place in it. We want to celebrate and value their creativity and build grassroots engagement with Literature.
Building on the very positively received work of Read Manchester and the MMU Children’s Book Festival to enable people to write about their lives, the place they live, and their experiences, we use a network of writers, teachers, librarians, and volunteers city-wide to champion writing competitions with schools, businesses, and community groups, pairing adults and under-18 participants, encouraging intergenerational, intercultural cohesion.
We will be working with existing small organisations in the city to commission new work from emerging writers, which we will share here.
Manchester City of Literature is committed to inclusion and accessibility for everyone.
