Family
Manchester City of Literature
The story follows twelve-year-old Romani-girl called Kezia, who after the loss of her mum is desperate to show her family that she can do anything a boy can. Kezia’s family have a strict routine: the boys and Dad go fishing while she cooks and tidies the house, but Kezia longs to go out fishing and to be a part of something bigger. After challenging her dad to a bet, she gets her chance…
The key themes are family, single parent household, grief, independence, not being heard, sexism, advocating for yourself, and the notion that adults can be wrong.
Please note that this event is for an invited schools audience only and tickets cannot be booked by the public.
