Come and join us for a kaleidoscope of poetry and conversation.

What emotions are unique to our mother languages, that cannot be expressed in English?

In this one-off, pre-recorded event, Young Identity poets will perform bilingual poetry, featuring young performers hailing from Asian, African and South American communities and those who speak in Gaelic languages in the UK.

The event is inspired by workshops held by Young Identity exploring our relationships to our mother tongues and creating new poetry. Through poetry and conversation we will explore what heritage means to us, how we connect to our mother languages when the world demands we speak English, and what power it gives us to navigate our daily lives in Britain.

The performance will feature Nasima Begum poet and MIF Jerwood fellow and Ali Al-Jamri from ‘Between Two Islands’ which brought bilingual poetry workshops to the UK’s Bahraini community.

The event is suited to young writers (16-25).
