Manchester Literature Festival
David will discuss his role as a writer and historian; his excellent work documenting and exploring Black British history; his thoughts on statues, decolonisation, structural racism and the ‘culture war’; the writers and creatives that have shaped him; and his thoughts on Manchester’s radical past, present and future.
David is Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester and was awarded an OBE in 2019 for services to history and community integration. His television credits include Civilisations, Black and British, Our NHS: A Hidden History, A House Through Time and the BAFTA award-winning Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners. Hosted by Ellah P Wakatama and presented in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and Creative Manchester.
Manchester City of Literature is committed to inclusion and accessibility for everyone.
