Since the conflict started in early 2022, the lives of the Ukrainian people have been upended by the violence of war. In such dire circumstances, football in the country represents continuation and hope, sending out a message both domestically and internationally about the strength and resolve of the country.

Andy Brassell is one of Britain’s most knowledgeable journalists when it comes to continental football. The TalkSPORT and Guardian correspondent will be sitting down with award-winning Ukrainian journalist and activist Maria Romanenko, discussing the current state of play in Ukraine, as its people fight for football and freedom.
