Manchester Literature Festival
Four talented and groundbreaking women worked in Manchester in the first half of the 20th century in very different fields, from theatre and art to the science of seaweed. Did they pass each other in the street, post their letters in the same postbox, sit in opposite corners of the same tea room? Join tour guide Emma Fox and writer Tania Hershman on a writing walk through the city – from Oxford Road to the centre of town – where Annie Horniman, Annie Swynnerton, Isabel Dacre and Kathleen Drew-Baker worked, taking inspiration from their lives, their interests and achievements to conjure up your own short stories and poems. No previous writing experience necessary, and the walking pace will be moderate.
The Tour starts from Manchester Museum.
Please note that there are two Four Brilliant Manchester Women tours taking place during Manchester Literature Festival 2024, one on the 4th October and one on the 20th October, so if you can’t make one date then do check your calendar for the other!
