Manchester City of Literature
Guy Garvey has been the lead singer and lyricist of elbow for over 25 years, hosts a weekly show for 6 Music and solo artist. Alongside his ‘best mates’ elbow, Guy is the co-recipient of a BRIT Award, the Mercury Music Prize and three Ivor Novello Awards, the most recent for ‘Magnificent (She Says)’ from their UK Number One album, ‘Little Fictions’. The release of elbow’s eighth studio album in 2019, ‘Giants of All Sizes’, became the band’s third consecutive UK Number One album. Guy has also been awarded an honorary degree from Manchester Metropolitan University for his work in the arts and was recently made a visiting professor there also. In addition, Guy has collaborated with, amongst others, Massive Attack and Craig Armstrong and co-written and performed numerous soundtracks for TV and film.
