MACFEST (Muslim Arts and Culture Festival)
Muslim cultures have long used culinary, literary, architectural and other forms of the arts – for healing and nourishment.
In this session, culinary expert Yvonne Maffei and Shadab Zeest Hashmi, poet and essayist, will discuss the tradition of healing the body, mind and soul through food and the fine arts.
Yvonne will touch upon the development of remedies and medicinal recipes in the context of the Islamic kitchen. She will also share some simple and nutritive recipes.
Shadab will approach the topic of healing from the aesthetic and spiritual point of view, focusing on the Muslim contributions in the science and art of healthy living.
She will also share a few poems and prose passages on the topic of health and aesthetics.
Presented by: Yvonne Maffei, culinary expert and Shadab Zeest Hashmi, poet and essayist.
Hosted by: Janet De Neefe, author and Founder Director Ubud Writers & Readers Festival.
