A celebration of the 2021 Manchester Writing Competition including the announcement of the £10,000 Poetry and Fiction Prize winners.
We’re back! Join us at Manchester Metropolitan University’s fabulous new Grosvenor East Arts & Humanities Building for a very special evening to celebrate the 2021 Manchester Writing Competition.
Established by Carol Ann Duffy in 2008, the Competition celebrates Manchester as an international city of writers, finding diverse new voices and creating opportunities for writer development. It has given away more than £200,000 to writers to-date and will be awarding two £10,000 prizes this year: the Manchester Poetry Prize for best portfolio of poems and the Manchester Fiction Prize for best short story.
The night will open with a drinks reception before short readings from each of the poetry and fiction finalists. The evening will close with the announcement of the winners and presentation of the £10,000 golden envelopes. Judges Malika Booker, Nicholas Royle, Romalyn Ante, Hilaire, Zaffar Kunial and Simon Okotie will be there to celebrate some of the UK’s biggest literary prizes for unpublished work.
Date and time: Thursday 26th May 2022, 7pm (reception), 7.30pm (event) Venue: Manchester Metropolitan Grosvenor East Building – new home of the Manchester Writing School and Manchester Poetry Library – off All Saints Park (Grosvenor Square), Oxford Road, M15 6BG Tickets: All are welcome and entry is free but advance booking is essential.
