Manchester Literature Festival
Rock star classicist, author and broadcaster Natalie Haynes returns to MLF to celebrate the publication of her latest non-fiction book, Divine Might: Goddesses in Greek Myth. Meet Athene, goddess of war and wisdom; Artemis, goddess of hunting and protector of young girls; Aphrodite, goddess of sex and desire; Hera, Zeus’ long-suffering wife who wreaks revenge on those who wrong her, and many more, while wondering exactly why these fierce and powerful women aren’t as revered as their male counterparts. Expect to be educated, entertained and become fiercely passionate about the Greek goddesses.
Natalie is the creator and performer of the long-running BBC Radio 4 show Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics. She is also the bestselling author of Pandora’s Jar, about the women in Greek myth, and several novels including the Women’s Prize shortlisted A Thousand Ships and Stone Blind. Presented in partnership with the Centre for New Writing & Creative Manchester.
