Magical May sees Reshma Ruia and Kate Ireland headline what will be a Verbose to remember together with a brilliant open mic line up.

Manchester’s award-winning spoken word event – every last Monday of the month at The King’s Arms, Salford.

Verbose brings a vibrant mix of spoken word and live literature from a talented bill of open mic acts and wonderful headliners. Expect poetry, prose and everything in between from a real community vibe that gladly welcomes all newcomers.

ABOUT THE HEADLINERS
RESHMA RUIA
The author of two novels, Something Black in the Lentil Soup and Still Lives as well as a short story collection, Mrs Pinto Drives to Happiness. Her poetry collection, A Dinner Party in the Home Counties, was awarded the 2019 Word Masala Award. Her work has appeared in international and national anthologies and journals, and commissioned by the BBC, University of Cumbria and Manchester Literature Festival. She is the co-founder of The Whole Kahani – a writers’ collective of British South Asian writers.

KATE IRELAND
Kate is a performer, writer and community engaged artist from Glasgow. She recently appeared as a lead role in Rory Aaron’s This Town at Contact and Derby Theatre. She is the creative director of Blether, a storytelling + performance event based around the traditions of celtic ritual and solidarity, as well as a member of Collective Break, an all female performance cohort who’s theatre piece ‘Experiments in Rest’ premiered at Camden People’s Theatre this year.
